Wood Waste

There are roughly 2 billion wooden pallets in use across the United States right now, transporting and storing nearly everything you buy. But have you ever considered what happens to them once they’re no longer able to be reused? Despite the push to recycle, 25 million old wooden pallets end up in landfills annually, where there’s no guarantee they’ll be recycled. Wood waste (brush, trees, lumber, wooden pallets, and more) makes up 10% of trash thrown in landfills annually (source). We are committed to reducing that percentage by providing pallet disposal and wood recycling options for southeastern Nebraska.

Recycling FAQs

Q. What items can i recycle at hofeling enterprises?

A. Wooden pallets, crating, and construction waste can be recycled/disposed of at our facility. Nails can be left in the wood, but loads must be free of plastic, trash or metal corner pieces. We can't accept painted, treated or stained wood. We are also happy to accept your clean wood waste: brush, logs and limbs, etc. — no yard waste (grass; raked leaves) please.

Q. How much does recycling cost?

A. For our residential customers, a pickup truck- or small trailer-load of wood waste is $10. Larger dump trailers (or a truck + small trailer) run $20. For commercial customers, please call our office at 402-438-8733 for current bulk recycling pricing.

Q. I have old railroad ties; will you take them?

A. We are unable to accept railroad ties as the creosote compromises the high quality of our mulch products.

Q. i’m just a homeowner doing some yard work; will you take my branches?

A. We are open Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, and Saturdays in April & May from 8 - noon.
